Capoeria Nagô joins Milwaukee Artbeat!

We are proud to announce our partnership with Capoeria Nagô Milwaukee – they are working with us to provide the unique dance and martial art form to our youth!

Capoeira Nagô Milwaukee is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to spreading Brazilian culture throughout the Midwest, principally through the art of capoeira.

Capoeira is a unique Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, dance, music and acrobatics. Capoeira was developed in Brazil, but its history extends to Africa and tribes from Angola. Slaves living on Brazilian plantations who weren’t allowed to openly practice traditional forms of self-defense developed an ingenious method of disguising their training by combining it with dance-like movements, singing, and the rhythms of primitive instruments. The result was a “game” of fluid ground movements, spinning kicks, and daring acrobatics set to the energetic clapping and singing of spectators.

Today, capoeira is an international sensation: in fact, it is the second most played sport in the world, second only to soccer.

We will enjoy a performance by a capoeira dance group in our One Year  Anniversary show, themed: “A Taste of Central and Latin-American Flair!” Please join us for the celebration, and experience the magic of this beautiful, unique art form!
