We are proud to announce our partnership with Capoeria Nagô Milwaukee – they are working with us to provide the unique dance and martial art form to our youth!
Capoeira Nagô Milwaukee is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to spreading Brazilian culture throughout the Midwest, principally through the art of capoeira.
Capoeira is a unique Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, dance, music and acrobatics. Capoeira was developed in Brazil, but its history extends to Africa and tribes from Angola. Slaves living on Brazilian plantations who weren’t allowed to openly practice traditional forms of self-defense developed an ingenious method of disguising their training by combining it with dance-like movements, singing, and the rhythms of primitive instruments. The result was a “game” of fluid ground movements, spinning kicks, and daring acrobatics set to the energetic clapping and singing of spectators.
Today, capoeira is an international sensation: in fact, it is the second most played sport in the world, second only to soccer.

Make sure to get to the Hide House early enough to participate in the salsa lesson at 7pm – taught by Christine Almeida! Anyone can participate, with or without a partner! If you’ve ever thought about taking Latin dance lessons, now is your chance to move your hips and get a taste! There is no cost to participants, but we do ask a small donation to cover the cost of Christine’s services. Christine was recognized as the authentic “Salsa Goddess” in a recent Milwaukee Magazine Publication. Journalists Perry Lemek’s article “Some Like It Hot”, read, “Make no mistake; Almeida is Milwaukee’s authentic Salsa Goddess- fiercely proud of her heritage and profoundly well versed in the history of her cherished avocation.” Also, look for Christine – appearing on The Morning Blend on Monday, April 12th!
Please join us and bring a comfortable pair of shoes to change into for your salsa lesson! There will be plenty of space for the dance group! Even if you have two left feet, Christine will get you shaking like a pro in minutes! You can visit her website at http://latindancecompany.biz !!
